Our Board of Directors
In addition to the founder Dave Collins, the Board of Directors is currently comprised of scientists and professors from the University of Guadalajara´s Southern Coast Department for Sustainable Development of Coastal Zones (DEDSZC). The department, which was created in 1991, is located in Melaque, Jalisco, 15 minutes south of La Manzanilla. Tierralegre Board members were selected for excellence in their fields and demonstrated dedication to conservation of the Costalegre.
Close association with University of Guadalajara´s DEDSZC, which is on the political and scientific cutting edge of Costalegre conservation, insures that Tierralegre is always involved in ongoing and future conservation issues along the Costalegre. As well, the marine biology campus provides a pool of students who are keen to participate in conservation and sustainability courses, programs and projects, in addition to graduate students searching for ecology and conservation biology research projects.
Since its official inception in 2007 Tierralegre has become a significant participant in conservation of the Costalegre eco-region establishing strong relationships not only with University of Guadalajara´s DEDSZC, but as well with the community of La Manzanilla (local and expatriate), the La Manzanilla ejido, the municipality of La Huerta, Jalisco, other surrounding communities such as Careyes, and the nearby Chamela-Cuixmala Biosphere Reserve which includes the Fundación Ecológica de Cuixmala, A.C., and the biology station of the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México.
