Bamboo cultivation

Tierralegre, AC, is involved in the management and coordination of various conservation projects on the Costalegre, focused mainly on the Tenacatita Bay watershed including the towns of La Manzanilla, Los Ingenios and Boca de Iguanas.  Tierralegre's primary project is the creation of a Center for Applied Ecology, which will provide the necessary infrastructure for the capacitation, dissemination, demonstration and application of permaculture and ecology, as well as the promotion of organic products and renewable resources, such as bamboo.

Bamboo cultivation fulfills the dual objectives of protecting natural resources and fomenting sustainable development: 1) the propagation and use of bamboo for the protective benefits it provides to soil and groundwater, wildlife, agricultural crops, and for its incredible capacity to capture carbon dioxide; 2), this  renewable and resistant material is ideal for bio-construction.  In sum, the environmental services bamboo provides in combination with its economic benefits make it an incredibly viable alternative for rural region.
