Salvador Hernández Vásquez, PhD.

Chava, a full time researcher and professor at DEDSZC, completed his M.S. in Marine Ecology and his Ph.D. in Marine Biology. He has completed at least a dozen research projects financed by national and international institutions, and has published articles in international scientific journals as well as presenting at numerous national and international conferences. His current focus is on the long-term monitoring and reproductive biology and ecology of estuarine aquatic birds and island sea birds along the Costalegre, and the greater Central Pacific Coast of Mexico.

Chava is without doubt the best birder on the Costalegre.  He recently published a guide to local birds which was financed by the Jalisco Coast Foundation A.C.--Vamos a Pajarear (Let´s go Birding)--which thoroughly covers the almost 300 bird species found along the Costalegre.
